Chitrlada Shop
Chitrlada Shop is located on Suan Chitrlada, Dusit Palace complex. Generally open from 09:OOam-16:OOpm. This store sells goods produced under the auspices of The Support Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, an initiative which encourages people in the rural areas of Thailand to produce original handicrafts indigenous to their region. Items include silks and cottons, handbags and basketware, hand-embroidered linen, crocheted tablecloths, fabric toys, cushions, etc. ID is required to enter the Palace grounds and a very strict dress code is applied: no trousers or shorts for women; no shorts for men. Other branches: the Grand Palace, Vimanmek Mansion and O.P. Place Shopping Centre.

Platinum Mall
This massive wholesale mall is a source for retail shops all around Bangkok, from Khao San Road to Siam Square. You'll find many of the same brands at Chatuchak. Bargain hunters can still pay wholesale prices by purchasing a minimum of three pieces from the same store. If you are lucky you can pay the wholesale price for just two pieces. With more than 1,300 shops, you'll need at least four hours to get through the mall.

This wholesale department store requires a member card for all purchases, available on-site with the presentation of a passport. There are approx. 7 brances i.e. Makro Bangbon, Makro Bangkapi, Makro Bangkhunsri, Makro Don Muang, Makro Pakkred, Makro Sathorn, Makro Samut Prakarn. Children under 12 are not allowed on weekdays.

MBK (Mah Boon Krong)
MBK is located on the corner of Phayathai and Rama 1 Roads created for those shoppers who wish to experience market-style shopping in an airconditioned atmosphere. MBK has a mind-boggling variety of items at very cheap prices. Narayana Phand (Narai Phand)
Narayana Phand (Narai Phand), located opposite Central World Plaza (formerly World Trade Center), includes a large government-run store with a huge selection of Thai products, and a smaller bazaar in the basement. You have a choice between the fixed-price items in the store, or negotiable prices in the basement. The latter provides Chatuchak-type atmosphere, albeit with the comforts of air-conditioning. With several ATMs and a currency exchange bureau near the entrance, Narai Phand is hard to beat for those visitors with little time. You can literally spend hours here in what could well be Bangkok's most convenient venue for one-stop souvenir shopping.

Thaniya Plaza is located on Thaniya Road (between Silom Sois 2-4). Along with the numerous golf shops in this small-sized mall is a small pocket of delightful outlets for various Thai goods, especially lacquerware, basketry, antique items and general handicrafts. Open from 10:OOam-22:00 pm.

At 500,000 sq km, the Seacon Square shopping center, located on Srinakarin Road, claims tc be the biggest in Asia and the fifth biggest any-
where in the world. . There are hundreds of shop

O.P. Place, an 'Asian Heritage Shopping Center', lies along the Chao Phraya River next to the Oriental Hotel. The shopping center is known for its antiques, boutiques, decorations, carpets, handicrafts, jewelry, leather goods, painting, souvenirs, tailors and Thai silk.

Panthip Plaza
The best place to go for any type of computer shopping is the multistory Panthip Plaza located on Petchburi Road in Pratunam (not far from The Amari Watergate Hotel). Prices are very cheap. Panthip Plaza is the most famous for the huge amount of pirated software available. As well as software, pirated versions of all of the top Hollywood movies are also available on DVD or VCD, as are compilation MP3 CD's with around 12 albums on each. Each CDNCD/CDFiOM costs only around Bht. 100-150, as the intense competition helps to keep the prices low. The DVDs cost around Bht. 300 or so, and may or may not have had the regional coding removed.

Peninsula Plaza
If you walk down Rajadamri Road, towards Silom Road, you will find the sophisticated Peninsula Plaza. This boutique shopping complex specializes in designer label clothing, jewelry and accessories. Browse through your favorite name brands or sit down for a cup of coffee at one of the several trendy open-air cafes.

Ploenchit Center
Ploenchit Center, a 24-storey modern office & shopping complex located in the central business district of Bangkok, was established in 1996. River City Shoppirig Compiex
This shopping complex lies along the Chao Phraya River, next to the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, and is known for its art and antique stores, frequent auctions, and negotiable prices. A major auction of arts and antiques takes place once a month. See the calendar section for more details.

Sai Jai Thai, located on the corner of Sri Ayutthaya Soi 7 Road is open from 08:30-16:30 everyday except Sunday. Sales of products from Her Majesty's Vocational Training Center including etched glassware, leather/textile bags, silk and general souvenirs.
